I have a potential project where the client whose company is over 100 yrs old and wants to implement an eCommerce platform for customers to purchase from. They have already purchased the eCommerce Catalog software. The company they bought the software from will provide the training to me to create the online catalog. However, there are 1000's of product items this company distributes for many manufacturers. I would have to get info for these products from the manufacurers who may and may not have them electronically for me to dump into the database. There mayalso be some testing form a technical aspect that I may have to contract out.  I haven't a clue how long this project would take or what to charge. The client doesn't have a marketing plan and I have mentioned value-added services I could provide as this could be an on-going project and they have no one in their company who would be able to maintain and manage. Any advise is welcomed.

Hey Nilda,

I can't really speak to the marketing aspect of your question, but it from technical standpoint we have worked with several clients that large product databases.

I would suggest the best way to engage this project would be to:

1st learn the ecommerce platform they are using.

2nd Create simple step by step training document that you can teach your client how to use the system correctly.

3rd Use your training document to outsource the manual product entry to some local high school students or maybe overseas.

4th Help them build the marketing plan. If they have been around 100 years i am sure they understand the value of well planned strategy.

I love to hear how it turns out and how you end up bidding the project.

Cheers
