I have not been successful in finding the equivelant Mac solution to this question. I fear I'm overlooking it because it can't be that hard to find.
The tutorial answers for similar questions matched off closely enough that I was able to find the location on my Mac, but not for this one. Would be great if Mac users were of consideration when designing templates and answering questions.

Hi Lori - I use Excel for Mac 2011, so perhaps I can help. If you will go to the Layout menu, you should see checkboxes for "Gridlines" and "Headings". Check either or both of these to cause them to appear, and simply uncheck them when you're ready to hide them again.
