Over the last month Google has quietly rolled out a new search engine formula to better answer the increasing number of complex questions by Web surfers.

The update is part of a project called “Hummingbird,” which according to Amit Singhal, a Senior VP for the company estimates will affect the analysis of about 90% of the search requests that Google gets. This could have major ramifications as Google handles so much of the Internet’s traffic; 2 out of 3 searches in the U.S. and even more in Europe.

Hummingbird was put in place to allow Google’s search engine to better understand concepts instead of just words. This change needed to be done as people are now so reliant on Google and routinely enter lengthy questions instead of keywords.

Has “Hummingbird” affected your website traffic yet?
